NMRA WON’T RESCHEDULE
ATCO RACE
The decision has been made to not reschedule
the National Mustang Racers Association Atco
event for the 2004 racing season. Due to the
very active schedule of Atco (NJ) Raceway,
hosting an event almost every weekend, there
are simply no viable opportunities for the
NMRA to return this year. In addition, Hurricane
Charley caused a major inconvenience for the
track and many racers in the area. Purchased
tickets for this event may be redeemed for
full value at a future NMRA event for a period
of one year. [8-17-2004]
COWIN TO RETURN AT U.S.
NATIONALS
Champion
Australian Top Fuel racer Andrew Cowin will
return to compete at the six remaining NHRA
POWERade events, beginning with the U.S. Nationals.
Cowin was injured in a non-racing related fall
in March 2003 and resigned as driver of the
Carrier Boyz vehicle. He returned home to Australia
to recuperate.
The Cowin Family Racing team will have a brand
new McKinney chassis. Keith Stewart formerly
with Kalitta Motorsports, is in charge of the
crew and day-to-day operations of the team.
Andrew’s father Graeme will tune the
car. The team will also compete at the IHRA
World Nationals in Norwalk, OH on August 26-28. [8-17-2004]
TOP FUEL GROWTH SPURT

Top Fuel dragster at the same race, means the
car counts in NHRA’s top category will
make some very full, competitive fields next
season.
A possible announcement may be forthcoming
from Don Schumacher of a second digger, and
there are new indications that John Force may
yet have a Top Fuel car in 2005. There’s
also solid information from a couple of the
Agent’s sources of an announcement at
Indy that Saturn sport compact Pro FWD driver
Lisa Kubo will be the driver of a new Top Fuel
team for the 2005 NHRA season with a high-profile
sponsor and high-profile owner. Kubo reportedly
has one more year on her contract with Jim
Epler at Saturn Motorsports. [8-17-2004]
TRACK IS OPTIMISTIC
The Agent received a note from Steve Roberts
to correctly identify the owner of the track
in Brainerd, Georgia in our 10.5 race coverage
from that venue. Seems the track is owned by
the Brainerd Optimist Club and is just leased
by Steve Longley. We’ve got it now. [8-17-2004
