ANCONA RETURNS
Longtime friend of DRO, Bill Harden, will help
fellow-Texan Bill Ancona bring his Top Fueler
to NHRA competition at Memphis and Indy. The
Agent is pleased to note that Harden also will
continue the U.S. Nationals barbeque bash tradition
started by the late Mickey Winters. This will
be the first one without Mickey and the Agent
will be there to raise a glass in his memory.

MORE
POWER FOR JEGGIE
Jeg Coughlin will have a new motor in his Pro
Stocker at Memphis. Word from the Coughlin pits
is that it is the most powerful engine they
have ever had. The question is, however, is
it powerful enough to stop Greg Anderson? (Jeff

SMITH CHECKS OUT
. . .of the hospital, that is. Evidently Von
Smith, the driver for Tommy Lipar's Pro Mod
team, is feeling better after his heart surgery
on Aug. 11, as he signed himself out of the
hospital against his doctor's advice, and went
home to recuperate.
The Agent can only hope that Smith is at least
occasionally allowing a check-up by "Nurse
Tiffany." Guess drag racers recover faster
too. [8-20-2004]
STACKING 'EM TALL
Agent 1320 hears that in order to make the
Goodguys' A fuel dragsters look more like the
real thing, they may require tall injector stacks
similar to these experimental ones manufactured
by MSD for their brand new fuel injection system.
The Agent knows that tall stacks will hurt performance,
but this is nostalgia and they ought to look
like the real thing. [8-20-2004]
WHERE'S THE NITRO?
Kenny Nowling, who is promoting the AMS versus
Outlaw Pro Mod race at Carolina Dragway, says
he now has 65 entries for the October 9-10 event.
There are 32 AMS Staff Leasing circuit cars
and 33 outlaws. Noticeably absent from the list
are any nitro coupes. There has been a lot of
"big talk" on some of the Internet
chat rooms, but as of yet, none of the nitro
coupe drivers have put their money where their
mouth is.
Readers wishing to vote for drivers they want
to see on the AMS or Outlaw teams can go to
www.amspromods.com.
