GRUBNIC MEASURES UP TO
INDY SPONSOR
Kalitta Motorsports Top Fuel driver “Aussie
Dave” Grubnic will carry a new bright
yellow paint scheme into competition as The
Stanley Works, the Connecticut-based industry
leader in tools, hardware and specialty hardware
products will provide a one-event primary sponsorship
for the U.S. Nationals. To celebrate the 50th
anniversary of “The Big Go”, Stanley
will feature one of its FatMax® products
and call out its various divisions on the vibrantly
adorned race car.
The Agent especially likes the fact that spectators
will be able to accurately measure the length
of victory over Grubnic’s opponents. [9-2-2004]
COUGHLIN LEADS HEMI CHALLENGE
Jeg Coughlin is No. 1 in the Hemi Challenge
which will take place Friday during the U.S.
Nationals. The Ohio driver is competing in
the Super Stock A/Automatic 1968 Barracuda
of Michael Ogburn and Harry Holton. Charlie
Wescott Jr., also in a '68 Cuda, is second
with a 7.91.
The Hemi Challenge may be the best-kept secret
of the weekend. It isn't listed on NHRA's official
schedule and even calls to Mopar couldn’t
shake loose a timetable. The Agent will be at
the track at 8:00 a.m. and hopes the cars will
show up eventually. [9-2-2004]
WILSON GOES ‘YEOW-EEE!’
August 26, at a test ‘n’ tune
at Southeastern Int’l Dragway in Dallas,
Georgia, DRO’s Dale Wilson got to make
some passes in his new “Yeow-eee!” front-engine
dragster with its 144 B&M Performance supercharger
atop the 355 engine, with a BG Demon on alky
supplying the fuel.
After a lot of tweaking and adjustments to
both the car and the driver, Wilson was able
to make a good run, a 5.51 at 122 mph in the
eighth. Look for more tech about the car in
a later issue. (photo
