MULTI-TEAM EXPANSION
As the Agent reported way back at Denver,
Don Schumacher Racing may very well have three
Mopar Pro Stocks by next season. With Mopar
Sport Compact driver/builder Shaun Carlson
a prime driver candidate, Bob Glidden, now
on Schumacher’s payroll is hard at work
putting the 2005 hemi-powered teams together.
While troubles plagued the new Wonder Wagon
funny car driven by Johnny Gray, there’s
speculation that Tony Schumacher may testing
in that seat soon as a long-shot switch to
floppers for the U.S. Army driver in the 2005
season piloting a possible fourth fuel coupe.
After Darrell Russell’s death Tony said
he might switch to the safer funny cars.
The Agent got John Force to clarify his Wind
Tunnel proclamation of a new top fuel entry.
Force told the Agent he’s had a 300-inch
Murf McKinney chassis and Featherlite transporter
sitting in his Yorba Linda race shop for the
past two years. “If money comes and it
has to be a dragster, then I will build the
dragster. I’ve got two deals on the table
right now, but I’m ready for it and I’ve
made no decision on a driver,” said the
12-time champ.
Force also said daughter Ashley, this year’s
Indy A/Fuel Dragster champ will drive for the
Darien & Meadows team for the next couple
of years in her Mattel livery. “With
what they’ve gone through with problems
with the dragsters, I’m in no hurry to
jump up and move my kid up there until some
of these things are resolved, but a funny car
is where we are focused on for Ashley.” (Darr
