PRO STOCK CHEVY-HEMI HEADS
FOR PRO MOD
The Agent was informed that a couple of very
prominent West Coast supercharged Chevy Pro
Mod racers are currently testing Sonny Leonard's
Chevy Hemi heads for use on their Pro Mods.
These are true Chevy Hemi heads (see DRO Nov.

story on the heads and engine) and if they work
as good as in dyno testing, these Chevy heads
will replace the Chrysler hemi-heads one of
the racers is currently running. [9-27-2004]
PRO MODS NOT LEGAL FOR FIVE-SECOND
PASSES
There has been some talk about the possibility
of five-second Pro Modifieds in NHRA competition,
especially if new rules are made for NHRA Pro
Mods that could result in 2600-lb supercharged
Pro Modified cars and raising the allowable
maximum overdrive to 29 percent from the current
20 percent maximum as mandated by IHRA. According
to several chassis builders that DRO has contacted,
current NHRA/IHRA Pro Mod chassis are certified
for e.t.'s no lower than six-oh. So, for current
Pro Mods to be legal for five-second passes
the SFI would have to write a new set of specs
and the racers would possibly have to build
new cars. [9-27-2004]
'B'IS FOR BUS
While covering the NHRA National Open over
the weekend at Los Angeles County Raceway, DRO
West Coast Editor Darr Hawthorne spotted one
of SoCal's best kept secrets. The guy who has
probably stitched and embroidered more patches
and names on drag fan jackets than any other;
Big Black Broke Bill Bailey's latest bus.
Bailey and LACR owner Bernie Longjohn are longtime
friends and the founding member of the 5B Club
has been building his new altered wheelbase
bus out there in the dry high desert climate.
