‘BUD SHOOTOUT’ IS
IN VEGAS, MARTIN!
In his pre-Indy article about the Skoal Showdown,
Chris Martin made reference to the fact that
the “Big Bud Shootout” would be
held at the World Finals in Pomona. Wrong,
wrong, WRONG!
In fact, the Budweiser Shootout for Top Fuel
will be held Saturday, October 30 at Las Vegas
Motor Speedway during the ACDelco Las Vegas
Nationals.
The Agent promises to give DRO’s Editor
at Large a map and a compass and start him
heading in the right direction for the event.
And remember—“This Martin’s
for you, Bud.” [9-10-2004]
ATHEY ALREADY IN TF SEAT
Paul Athey has decided to park his Pro Modified
car for the remainder of the season and get
a head start on next year’s Top Fuel
program. Athey made a licensing run in his
and Grant Flowers’ Mohegan Sun-sponsored
dragster at Norwalk Raceway Park.
“The ride in this car is absolutely
incredible!” Athey said. “It pulls
all the way through the run and much harder
than my other cars. I can definitely get used
to this.” [9-10-2004]
HERE’S YOUR CONSOLATION
PRIZE, BOB
Bob
Gilbertson had a bad news/good news situation
at the 50th Annual Mac Tools U.S. Nationals.
The bad news is that he missed qualifying for
the prestigious event by only .03 of a second
but the good news is that he won a $50,000
custom built Harley in a raffle.
“I bought a $200 ticket a while back for
the bike and kind of forgot about it,” said
Gilbertson. “A fan came up to our pit Saturday
and told us that we had won the bike and it was
announced over the PA system. Next thing
I know my PR guy Bob Doerrer came into our pit
with the winner of the Kansas City Easy Riders
2003 bike show built by Big Al’s Chop Shop
out of Clarksville, Arkansas in tow.” [9-10-2004]
