SNIPPET FROM DOWN UNDER

DRO European correspondent Ivan Sansom, on a busman's holiday in Australia, forwarded a few photos of Terry Sainty driving the family-built Gulf Western Oils fueler. Virtually everything except the mags and wheels and tires has been produced in their Sydney workshop.

The unique Sainty three valve billet motor produced the fastest and quickest pass by a non-Hemi based powerplant in qualifying Jan. 28 at the Quit Motorplex, Kwinana just outside of Perth in Western Australia.

Previous best passes for the Sainty car were in the 5-oh's. Terry's 4.873 at 298.01 represents a remarkable leap in performance, but one that is the culmination of over a decade of development of the Sainty motor. (Ivan Sansom photos) [2-1-2005]
