JOHNNY WHO?
One of the most talked about new body styles to come
along in Pro Mod in many years is the Dodge Daytona Charger
that Chip King and Bill Barrett brought out late this
year. The DRO feature car for October is the Chip King
Charger.
There is, however, a
pretty serious error in the story that we were just made
aware of. The Charger body was designed by Johnny Stamper.
Mr. Stamper works in the aerospace industry and also works
for a major NHRA professional team.
Just for the record he is solely responsible for the
design of the Daytona Charger. Our apologies, Mr. Stamper.
He has also developed several other innovative products
for supercharged cars and engines. . .but if we told you
what they are, we’d have to kill you. [10-27-2005]
NOSTALGIA DRAGSTER CLASS TO
EXPAND?
The Agent had a brief talk with NHRA director of sportsman
racing Len Imbrogno about the possibility of expanding
the A/Nostalgia Dragster class to B/, C/ and D/, seeing
as how the A/ND record has become almost impossible to
duplicate without spending a fortune. Imbrogno said that
isn't a possibility, but hinted that the NHRA IS considering
adding another class with head and other limitations different
from A/ND. Kind of like the econo classes, he was asked.
Yes, was the response. [10-27-2005]
THE SHOE DROPS THE OTHER FOOT
Don
Schumacher e-mailed Agent 1320 this morning to let him
know that, like the Jeg’s organization, he too is
reviewing any and all options concerning his Pro Stock
operation for the 2006 season. “I want to get the
word out that I am going to consider any opportunities
that make sense for the second DSR driver and sponsor
for 2006 and beyond," Schumacher said. "Richie
Stevens is on board for the future.”
Okay, the Agent is clear. Nothing is signed for 2006,
everybody is looking for or has options, and they’ll
all get back to us after the season is over. (Jeff

5-CAR TEAM WILL TRY FOR S/SS
TITLES
The first cars of the new Stock-Super Stock team headed
by Jay Higgins will be headed for the paint shop for their
makeovers right after the Rockingham IHRA World Finals.
Higgins has recruited multi-champion Scott Stillings,
Cam Tingin, and Danny Stanton to join him in a quest for
both the IHRA and NHRA Stock and Super Stock titles in
2006. The five-car team will include a new Cobalt for
Higgins, to replace his Grand Am which crashed at Roxboro,
NC, this year. The new team cars will have Jeff Taylor
engines. [10-27-2005]
DIESEL UPDATE
|
"Ernie"
|
William Fletcher sent photos of "Ernie" (white
truck), the National Hot Rod Diesel Association's world
record holder at 10.13/135.8. Fletcher says it's the world's
fastest street-legal diesel. The 5500-lb. truck runs on
DOT tires and fuel only. The other truck is a Jerry Bickel-built
Pro Comp with a 1382 hp diesel engine. Look for its debut
next season. [10-27-2005]
NEW TOP ALCOHOL SERIES GEARS
UP FOR '06
The Agent got a note from Will Hanna, who is putting
together a new race series for 2006. The Top Alcohol Racing
Series (TARS) already has two dates booked, with four
or five more tracks interested. The eight-car TAD field
will race on a modified Chicago format (the first run
is a qualifier, with the quickest four cars paired off
for the semifinal round, and the winners coming back to
run the final). Hanna says they also may put together
the biggest purse ever for a TAD race, paying $20,000
to win. For more information contact will.hanna@insidetopalcohol.com
