FIRST TO THE 4.40s!
In
this second-round pairing at Huntsville Dragway against
Tim Lynch (near lane), Terry Robbins set the Outlaw 10.5
world on fire with a 4.496-second pass at 162.05 mph,
marking the first sub-4.50 run in class history. The run
also backed up the 4.502 that Robbins went in qualifying
number one to secure the official ORSCA E.T. record. Lynch,
who went 4.504 in the opening round of eliminations, put
together a 4.519/164.29 lap against Robbins, making it
the quickest and fastest side-by-side Outlaw 10.5 race
ever. A tip of the Agent's cap to Robbins, who also sewed
up the 2005 ORSCA championship at the race. Watch for
full race coverage coming shortly to DragRacingOnline.com.

AN AGELESS BEAUTY
AND 3 GUYS
We
recognize photog and Hall of Famer Dave Wallace Sr. as
the happy guy just to the right of Linda Vaughn in this
photo, but have no idea who those white-haired geezers
acting as bookends are. Congrats from the staff of DRO
to Wallace Sr., but DRO Editor Jeff Burk reminds Mr. Wallace
that he's busted the deadline on a long overdue feature
that was assigned several years ago at another magazine.
Wonder what Doris Herbert would've done?

THE AGENT MISSED IT BY 'THIS
MUCH'
Just before last weekend's Pro Mod races at the IHRA's
Rockingham race and the NHRA AMS Pro Mod race at the Texas
Motorplex,

the Agent went out on a limb and predicted that a Pro
Mod would have its first "legal" five-second
lap in the U.S. (John Zappia already did that in Australia
in his Top Doorslammer).
Well, Rockingham was rained out, but Jay Payne drove
Brad Anderson's Dodge Stratus to a 6.000/239.23 on his
last qualifying lap and a 6.010/238.38 in the first round
of eliminations of the AMS/TLR event at Dallas, re-setting
the NHRA legal Pro Mod record at 6.000/239.28. The Agent
was wrong in his prediction by just a lousy one-thousandth
of second. To quote one of the Agent's favorite agents,
the late Maxwell Smart (Don Adams), "Missed it by
that much!" [10-10-2005]
