WALLY'S ROADSTER REDUX

The NHRA Motorsports Museum was presented with an historically accurate re-creation of NHRA founder Wally Parks's '29 Model A Ford hot rod at the final Twilight Cruise of the year. The replica was constructed by the Cal-Rods Car Club. "I only raced Ak Miller in this car once," the 92-year-old Parks told the crowd. "He was leading at the halfway point, but then I pulled away and won. I never raced him again. That way, I could say 'the last time I raced Ak Miller in this car, I beat him.'" Parks sold the original car in 1952 and it hasn't been seen since. (photo courtesy Pacific Communications Group) [12-9-2005]

INNERVIEW CLARIFICATION

The December DRO Innerview asked ADRL president Kenny Nowling about the format of the coverage of ADRL races on the "Inside Drag Racing" shows. He answered that at least the Quarter-Mile Quiz segment would be aired, but Nowling tells us he has had more than a few readers e-mail him about other features that usually are part of the IDR program. Nowling says that there will two other regular in-show features that will continue to be part of the program. Glad we could clear that up -- now go read the rest of the Kenny Nowling InnerView! BUDANO’S NEW BOMBER

NMCA Pro Street World Champ Vinnie Budano sent the Agent a couple of shots of his brand new Tim McAmis built Camaro. Vinnie’s slick new Camaro weighs in at a NMCA-legal 2800 lbs. The engine is a Scott-Shafiroff-built 738 inch GM with a

tunnel-ram intake, topped by a couple of dominators. The intake and cylinder heads are from Carl Foltz Engineering. The engine made 1370hp at 7400 rpm and 1070 lbs of torque at 6400 rpm on the dyno. Budano has a Speed Tech nitrous system on the engine which will probably add another 800-1000 hp. The only problem for Vinnie is that he sold that engine before they ever got to the track with it, so he’s in the process of building a new one to defend his World Championship with.
