NEW CLUTCH TECHNOLOGY FOR NHRA PRO STOCKS?

One of the Agent’s sources at Pomona says that this year the hot tip for Pro Stock racers is a six-inch, three disc clutch set-up. According to the source, many racers will be running that set-up for the first time at the Winternationals. If it rains, as is forecasted for Pomona for Friday and Saturday, and which would reduce the number of laps, qualifying could be very difficult for the big names. (Tim Marshall photo) [2-10-2005]

SIGN 'BOARDS' OF THE TIMES

In addition to laying a new concrete starting line and fixing top-end water drainage, Stan Adams' Pomona Drag Strip crew have replaced the finish line scoreboards originally installed there in the early '70s. The new Daktronics LED scoreboards should provide excellent visibility from anywhere in the grandstands, even in direct sunlight. Maybe the Agent will be able to see the boards without wearing his “cheaters” now. A similar scoring system was used at the recent Olympic Games and are currently in use at Atlanta Dragway, Texas MotorPlex and No Problem Raceway. You can still hold on to a piece of drag racing history by placing a bid on the old Pomona scoreboards, minus light bulbs, over at eBay with a starting bid of only $100, but you must haul them away.

The Agent thinks the old units would make a good start for the proposed Banning drag facility right down the road. (Darr Hawthorne photo) [2-10-2005]

LEMMONS TO PILOT L/S ENTRY

Jeff Plemmons, who finished fourth overall last year in ORSCA's 6.0 class, recently told the Agent he's stepping up to a Limited Street ride this season. Plemmons will be driving a 1966 Chevy II owned by Ronnie Engle of Engle Bail Bonds in Marion, NC, and featuring a 632 c.i. engine with a triple-stage SpeedTech nitrous system installed.
