IT WASN'T TROY'S FAULT

Freshman Pro Mod driver Troy Coughlin has been taking a beating from fans, the media, his own team and more than a few journalists concerning his driving ability or supposed
lack there of. Well, it turns out that the problems the Jeg's Pro Mod driver has been having which resulted in a lot of damaged engine parts, egos, and reputations had nothing to do with the driver. The problem turned out to be a faulty part in the shifter/transmission which was causing the transmission in the potent Mustang to kick out of high gear into neutral just after Troy pulled high gear.

We at DRO just wanted to say that the veteran racer really deserves a tip of the Agent's cap for showing some true grit. A lesser man and team might have folded under the pressure long ago. (Chris Haverly photo)  [5-4-2005]

BONES IS BACK

Fabled AA/GS shoe Bones Balough still has it as a drag racer at the age of 70. He made an appearance at the recently completed Super Chevy race at Pomona in an early Camaro with a blown 355-inch mouse motor under the hood, 10.5 tires and weighing 3500 pounds plus. Balough made his first full pass since 1969 and ran a credible 8.95 at over 150 mph! And then he won his first round of his bracket with an off the gas 9.07 on a 8.95 dial. This guy is amazing at 70! Thanks from the Agent to reader and Super class racer Ken Hemstreet for the info. [5-4-2005]

GOODGUYS ADD DAY TO TWO EVENTS

The Goodguys Northwest Nostalgia Nationals has been extended to three days. The event will be run at Pacific Raceways (formerly Seattle International Raceway) September 2-4 and will feature all Goodguys/VRA West Coast Championship Series racing classes. Goodguys will honor Jerry "The King" Ruth as the event's official "Hot Rod Hero." Ruth will be on hand throughout the weekend to meet and greet fans and will be honored on the dragstip starting line prior to Sunday's final eliminations. The famed "Winged Express" of Al "Mousie" Marcellus will be on hand making exhibition runs throughout the weekend with "Mighty" Mike Boyd doing the driving.

Earlier this year Goodguys extended the season-ending Fuel & Gas Finals to three days as well. The Goodguys 7th Fuel & Gas Finals is scheduled for October 28-30 at Famoso Raceway in Bakersfield, CA. [5-4-2005]
