CONNOLLY'S 7TH HOLESHOT WIN: STATS

Here is the latest mini update from DRO statistician Jim

In
the Top Fuel class at Denver the first "double double"
(which reminded me of the re-debuting Melanie Troxel Johnson's
old sponsor In-'N-Out burger) occurred. A rare double loss
in the first round was my first recording in TF since I
started keeping stats in 1987. Due to breakage or "starter
shutdown" among the other pro occurrences...
FUNNY CAR: Hartman/Worsham, Round 1, Reading
1991; Bode/Force, Round 1, Vegas II 2001
PRO STOCK: Schmidt/Ewing, Round 1, Dallas
II 1994; Schmidt/Rivera, Round 1, Phoenix 1995; Allen/Alderman,
Round 2, Columbus 1997
PRO STOCK BIKE: Mullen/Treble, Round 2,
St. Louis 1999
Plus, there are various races where neither driver showed
after the race was rescheduled due to rain. My question
is this, in the last 18 years of my stats, there never has
been a double loss in the final round...so what happens
if there was the same scenario as any of the above? Any
comments? Send to stats@dragracingonline.com.
Denver still hasn't achieved a 4-second bubble in the fuel
classes. In Top Fuel Jim Cavalieri's bubble spot of a 5.136
in 2000 has been the best. He went on to beat Gary Scelzi
in the first round. Jeff Arend's 5.081 this year is the
best Denver 16th spot. Outside of Denver, the following
active events have yet to score a 4-second bump in Funny
Car...Seattle, Sonoma, Memphis, Columbus and Brainerd.
Dave Connolly's two holeshots in Denver, now makes seven
holeshot wins for year for him. [7-20-2005]
