The third event in the six-race Flowmaster American Drag
Racing League series at Pat Joffrion's No Problem Raceway
Park in Belle Rose, LA, came to a steamy and eventually
waterlogged halt July 9 when one of the late arriving spectators
turned out to be Hurricane Dennis. Spin-off from the massive
storm stopped action after the first rounds of the combined
AMS Staff Leasing Pro Mod Challenge Presented by TLR, and
the ADRL Pro Extreme and Pro Nitrous categories.
The AMS/TLR eliminations will be wrapped up at the NHRA
Northern SPORTSnationals July 28-31 in Columbus, OH, and
the ADRL event will be completed at the ADRL Racensure.com
Sunshine Drags Aug. 19-20 in Valdosta, GA.
Despite only first round completion, the Louisiana race
seemed headed to an exciting conclusion. Bil Clanton's "Big
Money" '53 Studebaker set low e.t. overall with a 4.044
Pro Extreme win over Bennie McDonald's Corvette. Top speed
was established by an AMS Pro Mod when Jay Payne's 6.341/228.15-mph
charge failed to chase down Mike Ashley's 6.301/227.31.

Georgia, that is. After raining out Belle Rose and hitting
the Florida panhandle, Hurricane Dennis continued inland
and left plenty of water in Georgia. Hold onto your tickets
for the rained out 50th anniversary show at Southeastern
Dragway, as they'll be honored Aug. 6, when the Dallas,
GA eighth miler will try again. With land developers salivating
over the prime real estate the track sits on not far from
Atlanta's spreading exurbia, it could well be one of the
last opportunities to see racing at one of the South's oldest
active dragstrips. The Agent will definitely return for
a dose of nitro nostalgia. (Ian
