WHAT A CHALLENGE
Despite what may be the best kept secret in drag racing,
the Agent finally found out that the Mopar Super Stock Hemi
Challenge is scheduled for Friday, Sept. 2 at the U.S. Nationals.
Round one will be around 9:00 a.m. with the finals taking
place during the Friday night Pro qualifying session. There
are 30 SS/AA entries scheduled for this year's U.S. Nationals.
Veteran photographer Tom Schiltz will be covering this event
for DRO. [8-29-2005]
ANOTHER CHALLENGE
Billing itself as "the Indy alternative," the
third annual Stock/Super Stock Challenge will be held Sept.
4 at Sanair (site of the old NHRA Le Grandnational Molson))
near Montreal, Quebec. Both Stock and Super Stock will have
an eliminator with the winners of each then matched up in
a "King of the Hill Race." Contact event organizer
Michel Cote at 450-378-6993 for more INFORMATION. [8-29-2005]
REGULAR OR DECAF?
While
attending the just completed World Series of Drag Racing
at Cordova, IL the Agent saw this "Dutch Mafia"
logo on the rear quarter of Frankie Pedregon's Dodge Stratus
nitro coupe. The word the Agent got was that Dutch Mafia
is a brand of coffee that will be sponsoring Frankie. The
Agent guesses the Dutch Mafia is a kinder, gentler version
of the real thing. Probably if you mess up with these guys
they fit you for a pair of wooden shoes instead of the more
traditional cement version. [8-29-2005]
THREE CARS, THREE FINAL ROUNDS,
TWO DRIVERS, ONE YEAR!
Jim Oddy, owner, engine builder and tuner of the Summit
Racing Equipment-backed Pro Mod team, has had quite a year
so far.
He has had two cars
totaled, started the season with a new driver and then had
to find another one -- Steve Bareman when Al Billes couldn't
clear medical waivers -- and virtually built a new team
and car in the space of two weeks.
At the second race with his new team, driver and car (a
five-year-old Steve Bruce chassis) the team got to the final
round at the IHRA Sunoco World Nationals, re-setting the
Norwalk track speed record to 232+ in the process. A big
tip of the Agent's New York Yankee cap to Jim and Charlene
Oddy, his crew of Billy Leverentz, sons Dave and Dan Oddy,
chassis tuner Charlie Taylor, and especially "rookie"
driver Steve Bareman and his family. (Bob
