A GLIDDEN SIGHTING, TIRE TESTING

The whole Glidden clan, Bob, Bill and Rusty, were at St. Louis testing and scrubbing in tires and generally enjoying life. Seems like Pro Stock tires have to be run at least two or three times for them to be usable for NHRA Pro Stock racing. According to no less an expert than, Jerry Bickel the tires have be subjected to a couple of really serious burnouts and complete laps in order for the sidewalls to be broken in and to get the tires to grow. After several laps the tires quit "growing" and the roll-out of the tire quits changing. Only then they are ready for use.

Anyway, Bob Glidden was making full passes in both Schumacher Pro Stockers and working on his reaction times. Judging from the reaction of his boys, the old man was getting dialed in seriously to the tree. The Agent has just one question, is papa Glidden getting ready to drive in Pro Stock again? PRO RWD WILL COMPETE AT U.S. NATS

The NHRA Xplod Sport Compact Racing Series' Pro RWD competitors will "mash the gas" (as the NHRA press release says) at the Mac Tools U.S. Nationals, Aug. 31-Sept. 5 at Indianapolis Raceway Park.

Two-time NHRA Xplod Sport Compact Racing Series Pro RWD world champion Matt Scranton (shown)comes into the event with momentum from a victory two weeks ago at Moroso Motorsports Park in Jupiter, Fla. He defeated class rival Brad Personett in the final round in a battle between Toyota Celicas. Scranton, currently fourth in points, and second-place Personett, who drives the Titan Motorsports Celica, are in the middle of an extremely tight points chase with series leader Matt Hartford, winner of two races this season in his Summit Racing Chevy Cobalt. Only 108 points separate the top five competitors, as Steph Papadakis, who drives the AEM Honda Civic and Ara Arslanian, who drives the Street Glow Toyota Solara, are in third and fifth place respectively and have each earned one victory this season.  (Adam Cranmer photo) [8-31-2005]
