NHRA SIGNS WIRELESS PROVIDER

Digital Orchid, a San Diego-based distributor of information programs for wireless media, will provide mobile information for NHRA fans in a multi-year licensing relationship. The ACDelco Las Vegas NHRA Nationals on Oct. 20-23 will be the first time the service is available.

Fans will be able to access, via their wireless network applications, real-time data, news, driver profiles, statistics, schedules, results, standings, ladders and other data. In addition, fans will be able to download audio from the public address announcers at the track during a national event, delayed video from the event, custom wallpaper and screen savers, as well as ring-back and ring tones.  [8-12-2005]

GOLDEN HANDSHAKE FOR SED?

Southeastern Dragway (SED), near Dallas, GA, finally hosted its rain-delayed 50th anniversary celebration Aug.6, in front of a crowd that stretched from the burnout box to well beyond the finish line. Unfortunately, Mother Nature interrupted the proceedings

again, but not before Troy Martin (above) in his recreation of the famous Chi-Town Hustler and several other nostalgia floppers and dragsters made one round of exhibition passes.

Meanwhile, rumors continued to circulate about the track's impending sale to land developers, but track operator Gene Fuller said no deal has yet been reached with the property's owners. He revealed offers have been tendered and a large plot of land directly behind the track's staging lanes and burnout box has already been sold to a housing contractor, but he expects SED will operate "at least through the rest of this season." PAWUK DEBUT DELAYED

Mark Pawuk had planned to debut his new Pontiac GTO Pro Stock at this weekend's Brainerd NHRA race, but it's not quite ready. "Cowboy" says the car should be ready for the Aug. 19-21 Memphis race.

"After visiting Jerry Bickel's shop in St. Louis, and seeing the kind of work they're doing on this new car, we're willing to wait," Pawuk said. "Our team has been discussing our plan of attack and we're all in agreement that if the car's ready just a couple of days prior to the

O'Reilly's Mid-South Nationals in Memphis we'll spend that weekend putting the finishing touches on the car and testing it. We think it's more important in the long run for us to thoroughly test the car before we attempt to compete against the kind of quality national event fields Pro Stock is attracting these days."  [8-12-2005]
