WHERE'S THE RADAR?
It's
official now that the future is short for Inyokern Drags,
touted as the world's oldest continuously operating dragstrip.
Apparently a new person at the FAA thinks
that a pilot could confuse the dragstrip with the active
runway at Inyokern Airport, a former World War II Navy
airstrip, and thereby cause an accident. Although no such
mishap has occurred in the 50 years of operation by the
Dust Devils Car Club, the FAA says because passenger flights
now land at the airfield, the dragstrip will close at
the end of October. The NHRA Pacific Division Junior Finals
will take place at the Inyokern Dragstrip on October 15-16.

SIGHT 'EMS
The Agent saw former timing system guru for NHRA Art Hayward
in the pits at the U.S. Nationals. Seems like Mr Hayward
had taken over the duties that C.J. Hart used to have
of delivering ice, food and other goodies to the NHRA
crews during the event. The Agent wonders if they thought
of getting Mr.Hayward out of retirement to look at the
timing setup? [9-19-2005]
EXTRA
MINUTES
Over the past weekend the Agent spotted
Rick Henkelman consulting on Joe Windham's injected nitro
dragster at the NHRA Division 7 event at SoCal's California
Dragway.
Rick said his cell phone was "burning-up
the minutes" since he was also consulting on the
tune-up for his former partner David Baca while he was
competing at the NHRA Reading event.
The cell phone consultation helped to tune
Baca to a No. 9 slot and Windham's dragster qualified
4th, going out in the Top Alcohol semi-finals. [9-19-2005]
