BACA, WINDHAM JOIN FORCES
David
Baca (at left), owner/driver of the Baca Motorsports Top
Fuel dragster, has formed an alliance with Bill Windham,
owner of the Big O Tires A/Fuel Dragster. The A fueler
is driven by Windham's brother Joe in the NHRA Lucas Oil
Drag Racing Series. The new alliance will be called Baca
and Windham Motorsports. Rick Henkelman will be crew chief
for both race cars.
"For 2006 it made sense for us to pool our resources
together and merge the teams," Baca said. "Bill
and I have very similar ambitions in regards to growing
the team and adding more race cars." (photo

GOODGUYS CANCELS SONOMA EVENT
The Goodguys 18th Nitro Nationals, formerly scheduled
for June 30-July 2, will not be staged in 2006, making
the Goodguys/VRA West Coast Championship
Series a four-event series.
"We’ve not been successful at growing that
event and regret having to cancel it," said Goodguys
Senior Vice President Marc Meadors.
"We haven’t seen the growth necessary to
continue funding that particular event so we have no choice
but to cancel." [1-12-2006]
MORE ON TROY COUGHLIN’S
TURBO PRO STREET/PRO MOD CAR
As the Agent reported previously, Troy Coughlin has decided
to continue to race in the Pro Modified and Pro Street
classes in 2006 but, from what the Agent hears, not with
the Mike Ashley team nor driving a car with a supercharged
engine. Instead Coughlin has had Sonny Leonard build a
fuel-injected, twin-turbocharged power plant that will
power a Jerry Haas Ra
ce Cars Pontiac GTO that is under construction. Turbo-charger/EFI
expert John Meany will join the Coughlin team to assist
crew chief Bryan Metzenheim. Also on his crew is Coughlin’s
oldest son, Troy Jr., who plans to make the move from
the Jr. Drag Racing League into Super Gas later in the
2006 season. [1-12-2006]
