1320 NOSTALGIA NOTES

GARLITS UPDATES SWAMPY I

Here is a look at Don Garlit’s newly updated Swamp Rat I. Garlits has put the Hemi in it and returned to its original configuration with carbs and some weed sweeper headers. We’re not sure but that may be Shirley Muldowney in the car with Garlits talking to her.

TELSTAR TOP FUELER

Diamond Dave Miller made some laps in Charlie Proite’s Telstar Top Fueler at the Moroso race and ran a best of 6.46/210 in the Hemi powered car. Look at the outrageous mono strut front wing on this car.

SPEED SPORT ROADSTER

Illinois racer Rex Stevens showed up at Moroso with his Speed Sport Roadster. According to Stevens the chassis has been updated and runs a high gear only trans.

JUNGLE JIM WOULDN’T LIKE THIS

Chip Fracker drove this replica of Jungle Jim’s Vega and on its one and only pass ripped the rear-end out of the car when the chute came out.

PATON GETS FUEL FLOPPER LICENSE

Canadian Alky flopper race Todd Paton got his Fuel Coupe license at the Moroso event driving Paul Richards’ Olds. Paton ran a 5.81/265 to get his ticket. Interestingly this is the car that WWF shoe Jim Epler drove to the first 300mph pass a few years back.

GARLITS AND GREEK SEEK THE FOUR

Legendary driver Chris Karamesines ran a career-best 290 mph at 5.25 seconds in testing at Moroso. The Greek really wants the four-second pass to add to his resume and is rumored to be looking at a newer car to make it. The Greek’s best lap is a 5.00. Garlits would also like to get a four-second, 300 mph pass and supposedly talked with Tony Schumacher at Moroso about driving his car at the Tucson test later in January. Interestingly enough, Schumacher’s car should be painted all black at the test session.
