PRO STOCK COUGAR PROGRESSING

Chassis builder and part time driver Jerry Haas told Agent 1320 that the Cougar Pro Stocker he is building for IHRA Pro Stock racer Chris Holbrook is progressing very nicely. The St. Louis-based builder told the Agent that he had been traveling to Jack Rousch’s shop in Detroit to work on the car and that "It will be a bad hot rod!"

IHRA NEWS AND NOTES:

The IHRA experiment with running their races on Thursday, Friday and Saturday will begin with their first race of the season the second week of March. You can bet that NHRA and others will be paying attention to see how the racers and fans react to the change in format.

IHRA has let it be known that it is looking for a track manager at its flagship track Norwalk Raceway Park. Agent 1320 thought Bill Bader Jr. was the track manager. Could BB Jr have a new role in IHRA?

Kudos to IHRA Top Fuel stalwart Bruce Litton who qualified in the top half of the field at the Winternationals with a 4.75. Reports have it that not only did Litton conform to the NHRA mandated 90% nitro rule but he also kept the blower overdrive to 25 percent.

BRUTE FORCE RETURNS

Agent 1320 has learned that John Force’s R&D Funny Car will be painted with a paint scheme designed by Kenny Youngblood. It will use the Brute Force theme that Force had on his cars in the ’80s. Despite what Agent 1320 has been told and printed before, evidently the driver of the car is yet to be determined. Maybe Force’s brother "Diesel Louie" could be in the seat.

JOE GIBBS’ SONS GOING RACING

Top fuel team owner Joe Gibbs’ sons are going racing but apparently it won’t be in drag racing. Agent 1320 has learned that Gibbs’ sons J. D. and Coy, both of whom have worked as crew members on the Joe Gibbs drag racing teams, will race on the NASCAR Craftsman truck series with sponsorship from MBNA.
