Several tuners told the Agent that, although the 90% rule will help
fuel motors live longer, another contributing factor will be the new
billet material hemi blocks that several of the manufacturers are now
making. One of the main advantages will be that the billet block is
much stronger which keeps the crankshaft from moving around and up and
down as much during a lap and as a result the engine suffers less damage.
BRAD ANDERSON MAKES CAST "FAT HEADS" FOR HEMIS
Agent 1320 hears that Brad Anderson is making cast aluminum "Fat
Heads" for his hemis. One of the reasons that no one was seriously
trying to run a Hemi in IHRA Pro Modified during the 99 season
was that there were no suitable cast heads for the hemi. Now apparently
both Brad Anderson and Indy Cylinder Head have made a cast head and
have either tested them or are in the process of testing them. Word
has it that West Coast Pro Mod race Kurt Kuhns has a motor with the
Brad Anderson head and that it made considerably more power than his
wedge-headed engine. If that is true, Agent 1320 thinks that IHRA will
have to get back into the adjusting the rules for supercharged Pro Mod.
Reportedly Kuhn will be at the IHRA season opener at Darlington and
if he runs well the nitrous boys will be up in arms.
HILL HEALTHY!
Eddie Hills badly injured back has healed enough that the talented
Texan has been cleared by his doctor to drive. Agent 1320 keeps hearing
that NHRA will try to help put together a sponsorship so that Eddie
and Ercie can make an NHRA retirement tour ala Richard Pettys
NASCAR retirement.
HOOSIER RUBBERS JOHNSONS
Warren and Kurt Johnson will run Hoosier Racing Tires on their Pro
Stock cars for the 2000 season. Citing Hoosiers strong commitment
to racing as a reason for the move, WJ acknowledged that "There
are a few adjustments we have to make to take full advantage of the
way Hoosiers run," but he added, "I believe well solve
any problems quickly."
