REHER-MORRISON NOT DONE...YET Agent 1320 has heard some serious rumors that the famed four-time NHRA World Championship Reher-Morrison team might be packing it in. An ad in a recent National Dragster with one of the team's cars for sale fueled the rumors. The Agent talked to David Reher recently and was told, "We don't wanna quit, but the costs keep escalating and we have to take a look at things. Most fans know there's no sponsor in bold letters on the car just 'Reher&Morrison Racing Engines.' I will say that Bruce (Allen) and the team fully expect to complete the year. We're gonna watch our pennies and try and run the best we can. GM is helping us so we have a commitment to run this year. However, if we don't get help, we may have to park it at the end of the season." IS THE SUN SETTING ON NHRA'S PRO STOCK TRUCK CLASS? Agent 1320 keeps hearing the rumors that despite the major support by GM (and to lesser a degree DaimlerChrysler) of NHRA's Pro Stock Truck program, the fact that the rest of Corporate America and the fans have little or no interest in the truck class may lead NHRA to drop the trucks as a Professional category as soon as next year. We hear that one NHRA plan would put the trucks into the Competition Eliminator division where most of the teams came from. They would join Pro Mods and Nostalgia dragsters in changing Comp Eliminator from basically an open wheel class into a much more fan-appealing class with a wide variety of cars. It could be very entertaining should that scenario play out - which the Agent thinks would be the best for all concerned. The question is: Will a Bill Jenkins new small block Chevy for a Comp Eliminator truck still cost over $75,000 if that happens? |
