WHEELIE BARS FOR STOCK ELIMINATOR CARS

A, B, and C Stock Eliminator cars are really starting to get the wheels up these days - so high that they are starting to concern NHRA officials, both from a safety point of view and from the amount of damage (oil on track) that often results when one of these cars slams to the pavement after a big wheelie. Look for NHRA to make wheelie bars an option for the top stock classes in the near future and perhaps even mandatory.

There may be even more safety related rule changes in the Stock classes as these cars continue to get older and go quicker and faster. DRO thinks a nine-second, 3,000-plus lb. A/Stocker needs the same safety considerations that a 9.90 2,500 lb Super Gasser gets. (Photo by Jeff Burk)

IS SALE OF EMAP AFFECTING NMCA?
It is common knowledge in the business that the British publishing house that owns EMAP USA (publishers of former Petersen magazines such as Hot Rod, Car Craft, Circle Track, Guns and Ammo, and others) is trying to sell the company for about half the $1.2 Billion that they paid for it. "How does this affect drag racing," you ask? Well, the Agent hears that at least one of the bidders for the empire is Primedia (publishers of former McMullen Argus magazines such as Popular Hot Rodding and Super Chevy, among others). Several NMCA racers have told us that they've yet to receive any contingency checks even thought two races have been completed.

Could the fact that the rumored sale price of the EMAP publishing empire is less than half the 1.2 Billion it was bought for be causing some problems there? The more important question for the racers would be if the new owners -whomever they turn out to be - want to be in the drag racing promotions business.
