Mechanix Wear Speed Trucks are 108 inch wheelbase, 2600 pound race cars powered by 350 cubic inch Vortec V-8 and a 500 CFM 2 barrel Holley carb, sitting on a full tubular, mild steel chassis.

When asked about his future Top Fuel plans McClenathan said he’d have an official announcement soon after the U.S. Nationals... hinting as he did at Sears Point, at driving the second fueler of a new two-car team for the 2002 season.

KUHLMAN SIGNS THREE YEAR PRO MOD DEAL

After a long absence from the Pro Modified scene, Bill Kuhlmann is returning to the class. For the past few years Kuhlmann had been racing Nitro Coupes and owns the record for the quickest doorslammer pass ever at 6.000 at over 235-mph. After a disasterous fire in his Nitro Coupe Kuhlman set out most of the 2001 season.

Kuhlmann recently announced that he will not be driving a Nitro Coupe but instead will be running the NHRA Pro Mod exhibition circuit for the 2002 season with a two-car team sponsored for three years by AMS. AMS is a staff leasing company out of Texas owned by Dave Wood. (with Kuhlmann in the above photo)

Kuhlmann will be running two cars consisting of a new Corvette (not a 2001) to replace the one that burned to the ground and a '57 Chevy that will be driven by another former Super Chevy competitor, Doug Winters. Both cars will have Bill Kuhlmann-built Fontana "hemi" Chevy engines that will be tuned by Kuhlmann himself.
