PRO STOCK TRUCK ASSOCIATION DONATES MEMPHIS
PURSE TO RELIEF FUNDS
The Board of Directors of the Pro Stock Truck Association (PSTA) and
its members voted to donate the entire Pro Stock Truck purse for the
NHRA AutoZone Nationals presented by Pennzoil to the disaster relief
funds that have been established for this purpose. The donation will
total $27,500. The Pro Stock Truck Association represents 32 member
teams.
KEYSTONE TITLE RIGHTS GO TO PEP BOYS
Pep Boys has agreed to another title sponsorship with the National
Hot Rod Association. Under the terms of this new agreement, the association's
October 4-7 event at Maple Grove Raceway in Mohnton, Pa., will be known
as "The Pep Boys NHRA Nationals, presented by Greased Lightning."
Earlier this year, as part of Pep Boys' increasing involvement in motorsports,
the company sponsored the Pep Boys NHRA 50th Anniversary Nationals at
Pomona, Calif.
The new sponsorship will provide Pep Boys the opportunity to introduce
Greased Lightning, the manufacturer of well-known cleaning and degreasing
products used by many motorsports teams, to the sport of drag racing
and the NHRA. Greased Lightning recently signed on as the presenting
sponsor of The Pep Boys NHRA Nationals.
IS NMRA TRYING TO BECOME THE NMCA?
The Agent hears that the NMRA (National Mustang Racers Association)
may be trying to be the major player on the professional street car
racing scene, trying to muscle out the in-limbo NMCA and NSCA. The Agent
hears that at a recent NMRA event in Maryland the NMRA booked in NMCA
and NSCA regular Pat Musi and one other Pro Streeter to run an exhibition.
This all makes some sense when you consider that the parent company
(ProMedia - not to be confused with Primedia) for the NMRA publishes
the highly successful Race Pages and Fastest Street Car magazines. These
guys are highly successful, well funded and professional. The only real
question is what will happen to the rest of the classes that are unique
to the NMCA association. Stay tuned.
NASCAR CATCHING UP WITH NHRA
Agent 1320 got a call from a NASCAR source that was appalled by the
fact that some teams were actually buying 358 cubic inch Winston Cup
motors for $100,000. "Big deal," the Agent told him, "Some
of our Pro Stock truck racers have been spending $100,000-plus for their
357 inch motors and they have to buy two at a time." Has the whole
world gone mad?
RIEGER AND BRAD ANDERSON IN PRO MOD
We may have reported this before but Brad Anderson confirmed that he
would be building the Hemi motors for the '57 Chevy coupe currently
being built for defending NMCA Outlaw Street champ "Bad Bob"
Rieger. Sources tell Agent 1320 that Rieger has hired a couple of supercharged
specialist from a shuttered supercharged engine shop in Florida to crew
the car. Supposedly Rieger will run all of the NHRA and IHRA events
(that would be around 31-32 events). The Agent thinks Bob better hire
two crews like they do in NASCAR if he is going to run a NASCAR type
of schedule.
