SPORT COMPACT CULTURE TO SUPPORT
VICTIMS OF TERRORISM
The IDRC is dedicating its next event to the families of the victims
and survivors of the September 11th tragedy. A portion of every spectator
and racer entry will be donated to the American Red Cross to assist
those affected. In addition to the monetary support, the IDRC is now
attempting to set up an at-site blood drive.
This dedicated event will take place at Bandimere Speedway in Golden,
Colorado on Sunday, October 7 beginning at 8am.
GOODGUYS MOVE LONE STAR NATIONALS AHEAD THREE WEEKS
The Goodguys 9th Lone Star Nationals, originally scheduled for October
6 & 7, 2001 at Texas Motor Speedway has been rescheduled and will now
be held October 27 & 28 due to track scheduling conflicts stemming from
the terrorist attacks on New York and Washington September 11th. The
Indy Racing League and the NASCAR Truck Series events scheduled for
Sept. 15-16 were postponed and the makeup date for both of those events
is the weekend of October 6-7.
NHRA TO DONATE FUNDS FROM SOUVENIR SALES TO
AMERICAN RED CROSS
To provide support for victims of the terrorist attacks in New York,
Washington, D.C. and Pennsylvania, the National Hot Rod Association
(NHRA) has announced it will donate 50 percent of all its souvenir revenues
from this weekend's 14th annual AutoZone Nationals, in Memphis, Tenn.,
to the American National Red Cross.
"NHRA wants to do its part to help those that have suffered from the
horrific tragedies of last week," said Tom Compton, president, NHRA.
"We urge others within the drag racing community to consider ways, as
they see fit, to help support our fellow Americans in this time of need."
In addition, NHRA has planned a special pre-race ceremony for Sunday,
September 23 prior to the beginning of the weekend's elimination rounds
that is scheduled to be aired during the national event broadcast on
ESPN2.
GOODGUYS AND RHINEBECK RODDERS RAISE $15,000 FOR AMERICAN
RED CROSS DISASTER RELIEF FUND
The Goodguys 10th East Coast Rod & Custom Nationals, held September
14-16 at the Dutchess County Fairgrounds in Rhinebeck, NY generated
a cash donation of $15,000 for the Poughkeepsie, NY office of the American
Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund. Red Cross officials established several
donation centers throughout the event resulting in both event participants
and spectators reaching into their pockets to do what they could to
help the victims and families of the terrorist attacks on New York and
Washington.
American Red Cross volunteers received donations totaling $3,759, which
was matched by the Goodguys Rod & Custom Association. The Rhinebeck
Chamber of Commerce raised an additional $7,275 at the event bringing
to the grand total to $15,000.
