THE (SEEMINGLY) NEVER-ENDING SAGA OF BOB RIEGER
Apparently, after a much less than successful racing weekend at the
just completed Orlando World StreetNationals -- where the new car could
only manage a best of 6.80 and, according to the Agent's sources, damaged
the new twin turbo motor in the process -- Bob Rieger has thrown in
the towel yet again. Reportedly, he sold the car to the member of his
crew and will be running at selected NMCA events. The same sources told
the Agent that Bob is planning to return to California. Whatever you
say about Bob Rieger you can never say he is boring. The Agent's guess
is that, like the terminator, Bob will be back. [10-30-2002]
PRO MODS GET EXTENSION AT NHRA

DRO has learned that a group has signed a five-year deal with NHRA
to put on a series of music concerts at the NHRA events which feature
the AMS Staff Leasing Pro Modified series. According to our sources,
AMS has re-signed for the 2003 season with an option for the next year.
The only downside for the racers is that the payout of $1,000 to qualify,
$5,000 to win, and an eight-car field remain in place.
DRO investigative reporter extraordinaire, Susan Wade, is working on
an in-depth story about the Pro Mod series which will be up in the magazine
next Monday. [10-30-2002]
EFI COMING TO NHRA, BANNED AT IHRA...SORTA

NHRA is going to add a multitude of EFI classes to both the Stock and
Super Stock classes for the 2003 season which will please some racers
and manufacturers and not please others, specifically carburetor manufacturers.
On the other hand, Agent 1320 has heard a rumor that IHRA isn't going
to allow EFI in its new Top Stock program, limiting that class to carbureted
cars only.
Is the Agent the only one that thinks NHRA's adding EFI to the Stock/Super
Stock classes is the fore-warning to the Pro Stock class that EFI is
coming, even though Barry Grant has a long term deal for the Pro Stock
Shootout? [10-30-2002]
