NMRA TO OFFER PRO 5.0 SUPPORT PROGRAM

The National Mustang Racers Association will create an Entrant Support Program in an effort to increase class participation. The support program will be limited to 16 Pro 5.0 teams who must commit to attend at least six of eight NMRA national events and pre-pay entry fees for the year. In return, the teams are guaranteed an interview/team profile on the ESPN2 event coverage; a minimum of two pre-race radio interviews; print advertising in Race Pages, the NMRA publication; inclusion in the official poster and flyers and other benefits.

"It is critical for the NMRA and Ford drag racing to grow this headlining class. This program is designed to retain current racing teams and attract new participants in the NMRA Pro 5.0 class in 2003 and beyond," said Charlie Harmon of ProMedia Events.

GM PERFORMANCE PARTS EXTENDS W.J. SPONSORSHIP

One of the longest running sponsorships in NHRA drag racing will continue for three more years with the announcement that GM Performance Parts has extended its sponsorship of Pro Stock racer Warren Johnson. Johnson, a six-time NHRA champion and the most successful Pro Stock driver in drag racing history, will carry GM Performance Parts as the primary sponsor of his Pontiac SC/T Grand Am through at least 2005.

"The 2003 season will mark the 18th consecutive year that GM Service and Parts Operations has supported Warren Johnson's championship-winning team," said Robert Triulzi, General Director, GM Accessories - GM Service and Parts Operations.

Johnson, 59, of Buford, Ga., has driven GM products exclusively throughout his 27-year professional career. He introduced GM Performance Parts - then known as "Goodwrench Performance Parts" - to NHRA drag racing in 1986. [12-10-2002]
