'ULTIMATE DOORSLAMMER CHALLENGE' SPONSORED BY INFINET
Doorslammers will be able to compete in an almost anything goes format
during a special race to the five-second e.t. during the CompetitionPlus.com
Spring Open on March 22 at Virginia Motorsports Park. InfiNet Insurance
& Financial Network will give $5,000 to the racer with the quickest
elapsed time. Outside of the standard safety regulations, all entries
can run unlimited cubic inches, have no minimum weight, can run any
size tire, unlimited clutch discs, any gear, any power adder and can
run gasoline, methanol or nitromethane.
The Agent isn't sure just what the unlimited runs will prove since
they don't relate to any real world runs, but it could be fun to see
what kind of combination the participants come up with. [12-10-2002]
SANTAVY RETURNS TO RACING
You may not have heard of him before, but Bernard Santavy is one of
the more savvy guys in racing. As a GM engineer Santavy worked with
Buddy Ingersoll on his factory-works, turbocharged small block, V-6
Buick-powered Skyhawk that was almost the first NHRA legal 'slammer
over 200 mph (photo). The car definitely was the reason that NHRA banned
the turbocharged small blocks from Pro Stock competition. Bernard retired
from GM but recently resurfaced as the team manager for John Lingenfelter's
factory-backed import/sports compact racing team which features Chevy
Cavaliers powered by turbocharged GM Ecotec powerplants. (DRO file photo

Agent 1320 found out that Shirley Muldowney and husband Rahn Tobler
will have a six-race NHRA deal for next season thanks to backing from
Action Collectibles and a well known tool manufacturer. Everything hasn't
been completely hashed out yet, but look for an announcement very soon
from the parties involved.
The Agent also heard that Big had a four race deal in the works that
would include races at Gainesville, E-town, the U.S. Nats and one other
race. The Agent hasn't been able to verify this yet so it is still
a rumor but his sources indicate that the deal could happen soon. [12-10-2002]
