FUNNY
CAR RUMORS DU JOUR
Agent 1320 hears that Jim Epler, who is putting together a Saturn-backed,
three-car Import/Sports Compact racing team down in San Diego, also
has visions of a Saturn Fuel flop for the 2004 season with factory backing
if the Import team does well.
The Agent also hears that Jerry Toliver is trying to put together a
deal with Allen Johnson to field a Toyota Funny Car for next year. With
all of the parts and pieces that the former WWF/WWE star has on hand,
it wouldn't be a surprise if that scenario were to happen. [12-10-2002]
PRO STOCK PROGNOSTICATIONS
The Agent hears that Mike Thomas has a couple of new cars being built
at Jerry Bickel's shop. Also rumored to be getting new cars from that
shop are Tom Hammonds and a couple of other racers to be named later.
The Agent hears that for the first time in many years Rickie Smith will
be getting a new car from Jerry Bickel. Sources tell the Agent it is
a '63 Vette. Agent 1320 also hears that "Trickie" will getting a new
Viper from Jerry Haas. [12-10-2002]

West
Coast Pro Mod champ and occasional NHRA/IHRA Pro Mod competitor Dennis
Radford recently made a trip East to Rickie Smith's shop to buy Smith's
Viper and flog his nitrous motor in Rickie's car. Now word comes to
the Agent that Radford has decided to campaign both a nitrous oxide-injected
and a supercharged-hemi powered Viper with Kirk Kuhns driving and tuning
the second car. Kuhns is also in line to drive engine maven Brad Anderson's
new car which supposedly went to paint this week and consult and tune
the Zach and Mark Barklege car. Kuhns will be a busy boy if all of this
happens at once. [12-10-2002]
TOO MANY PRO MODS?
Agent 1320 heard that NHRA has already received in excess of 60 written
requests from Pro Modified teams to attend the NHRA Pro Mod season opener
at Gainesville in March. Sixty requests! According to the Agent's sources
that number doesn't even include any of the teams that ran the series
in 2002. There could be sixty cars rolling in the gate at the IHRA season
opener at San Antonio if those numbers are to be believed. [12-10-2002]
