KUHLMANN TAKES A DIFFERENT PATH

While many of his peers in the supercharged Pro Mod ranks are using the smallest rollout tire possible in order to compensate for the reduction in gear ratio, Bill Kuhlmann, who has the quickest time ever for a doorslammer at 6.00 with his Nitro Coupe, is running the biggest fuel tire available to him. It isn't, however, the new "spec" tire mandated by Goodyear for use on Fuel cars this year but rather last year's model.

MCMANAMA TEAM BUYING MORE NITROUS POWER

The Jim McManama NHRA Pro Mod team has apparently decided to stick to their nitrous-oxide program. They have committed to purchase one of Mitch Stott's Gene Fulton nitrous motors and will take delivery of the engine when the team gets to Houston.

"We know everybody is going to blower motors, but we are going to stick to our nitrous program," McManama said. "We believe we can make the nitrous program competitive. Besides we don't want to follow everyone else's lead. We believe that with a little help from the rule makers we can be competitive."

HEMI HMM?

The word on the street is Matt Hensley, the SS/A IHRA world record holder with a 8.847/151-mph blast, has acquired the assistance of a former Mark Pawuk R&D employee. Supposedly that employee is also working on a Hemi engine with Hensley for his own car. [Note: we know the photo isn't of Hensley, but it is a cool Hemi SS/A.] (Jeff Burk photo)
