"BONES" EWING IS ON A ROLL
Todd "Bones" Ewing, of Cullman, Alabama, is on a drag racing roll.
Not only did he win the NHRA Gatornationals in Super Comp, but a couple
weeks later won a Division 2 points race, and then won $20,000 at George
Howard's Quarter-Million Dollar Drag Race at Huntsville Dragway in Alabama
in April. Although Ewing, an employee of Huntsville Engines and Gary
Revis, says he is a die-hard bracket racer but, he has found heads-up
Super Comp racing to his liking. [5-1-2002]
MEDIA WATCH: DRAG REVIEW
IHRA VP Aaron Polburn took a shot at Internet magazines recently wondering
in his column, The Last Word, "Where do these internet magazines get
their information?" The Agent believes that's a good question as some
dubious information does appear on internet sites that refer to themselves
as magazines. However, the Agemt would ask Mr Polburn that same question.
His own magazine Drag Review mis-spelled Dale Earnhardt's name in IHRA
Prez Bill Bader's column and in the same issue in the results box credited
Bruce Litton with winning the Top Fuel title at Rockingham when the
headline above credited the winner correctly as Clay Millican. Oh well,
even the best have a bad day once in a while. Right, Mr Polburn? [5-1-2002]
DEPT OF CLARIFICATIONS
As many of you may know DRO and Nowling Motorsports Management have
teamed up with AMS Staff Leasing to sponsor a completely unofficial
points program for the NHRA AMS Staff Leasing Pro Mod Challenge. In
the points rundown we credit the speed record and ET record to Thomas
Patterson and Mitch Stott, respectively. The Agent got e-mails immediately
from several readers telling us that both the Jim Oddy/Fred Hahn team
and the Mike Janis team had bettered those times at both NHRA and IHRA
tracks. The Agent acknowledges that both of those teams hold the IHRA
and NHRA records set last year, but the DRO/NMM Cup is for the Challenge
which began this year. Cup records were set using speeds and ET's from
this year's NHRA/AMS Staff Leasing Pro Mod events and, like the points,
are completely unofficial. We just needed records to award points with.
