WYATT, LAWSON GO UNDER MAC UMBRELLA

Unquestionably one of the biggest players in drag racing is the Mac Tools Company. Funny Car racers Jack Wyatt and John Lucas received a needed boost when the tool company put their lettering on the sides of their respective Funny Cars. Wyatt, who had just the backing of Machine Works in Tucson, Arizona stated, "I made a call about two weeks ago to the company and we talked about some associate sponsorship. I told them that we had a new (for use) 2001 Pontiac body, and we were wondering if we could get a little help. I was pleasantly surprised when they said they'd back us at Indy. We got the car painted in time to give them a little exposure here at the (World Series of Drag Racing.)

Lawson had been parked for the last few races and the future looked uncertain. The Joliet, Ill. pro commented, "We practically introduced Lucas Oil to Funny Car a few years back and they had been great to work with, but the budget really tightened up. You know, the economy isn't hitting on all eight. Well, they decided to concentrate their efforts and cut us loose and went with Kenny Bernstein. They'll help to the end of the year then we have to hustle something up for next season."

By the way, the Lucas deal for Bernstein was a reported $2.5 million. [8-28-2002]
