RADFORD CAPTURES 2002 WCPMA CHAMPIONSHIP
Dennis Radford and his Poison Viper racing team have sewed up the 2002
West Coast Pro Modified Association Championship and punctuated it by
winning the most recent race at Boise, Idaho and also setting low e.t.
and Top Speed of the meet. Radford currently holds an insurmountable
lead of nearly 2,000 points over 2001 Champ Andy Neyer. [8-28-2002]
NHRA FINES PRO STOCK DRIVER LARRY MORGAN; PRO STOCK
RACERS WANT DIFFERENT QUALIFYING RULES
After a recent diatribe by Mopar Pro Stock driver Larry Morgan on live
national television in which Morgan berated NHRA for their scales and
also made a statement (and we are paraphrasing here), "If NHRA
doesn't start preparing the tracks better they are going to get somebody
killed!"

The normally affable Morgan was upset when his Pro Stock Dodge Neon
came up light on the scales after qualifying, and he was then disqualified.
One Pro Stock team spokesman told Agent 1320 that any wind on the nose
or tail of a Pro Stock, Top Fuel or Funny Car while they are on the
scales will change the weight readings because of the lift or down force
created by the sophisticated aero packages used on those cars.

The Agent thinks it might be a good idea for NHRA to build a portable
shed to surround the scales at national events with so much at stake
for the racers.
Morgan and many other Pro Stock competitors are becoming increasingly
frustrated with the qualifying procedure and the difficulty of making
the 16-car NHRA fields. The Agent hears that Pro Stock teams are lobbying
NHRA to consider a program where the top four qualifiers from each session
that haven't already qualified would qualify. Confused? So is the Agent.
Stay tuned. [8-28-2002]
