RIEGER TURBO REPORT
The Agent talked to his buddy Bob Rieger to get an update on the multi-time
Pro Street World Champ's progress on his new dual-turboed, hemi-powered,
'57 Chevy street car. Rieger said that he was going to test at Bradenton,
Florida within a week and then debut the car at Carl Weisinger's "real"
World Street Nationals in Orlando, October 11-13.
Rieger told the Agent that the team was going to put the twin-turboed
engine -- which has made 2750 hp in dyno testing -- in their '57 and
race it at 3,000 lbs.
"The lightest the car will weigh with this engine combination
is about 2,750 pounds," Rieger said. "We'll race it at Orlando
at that weight and then, if everything goes okay, we plan take the car
to Texas for an Outlaw race. After that we'll just have to see."

McDANIEL FUND SET UP

Rance McDaniel continues to show improvements from his July crash in
Boise, Idaho. He is now alert, free of any 'extra plumbing' attached
to his body, and starting on the long road through rehabilitation. Application
has been made to a rehab center in Bakersfield, California, near his
Fresno home, and as soon as the paperwork is accepted and processed
he will be transported back to California. Rance must learn to regain
some of his motor skills that were voided when he went through a violent
series of barrel rolls in his front engine top fuel dragster. Thankfully,
what was not lost during the final round mishap was the 62-year-old
driver's legendary quick wit and sense of humor. Attending doctors and
nurses have all learned to cope with it.
In order to help defray the mounting expenses brought about by this
accident, John and Sue Rodeck of Rodeck Aluminum Blocks have established
a trust fund on Rance's behalf. To help Rance and wife Lisa with the
many bills that are not covered by the insurance, the trust fund is
structured in a manner that allows 100 percent of the contributions
to go directly to the McDaniels. Nothing is diverted for administrative
fees or other such purposes. Those wishing to contribute to this fund
can do so by sending their contribution to: Rance McDaniel Special Needs
Trust, 4481 W. Chennault, Fresno, CA 93722
Collection points will also be set up in some pit areas at the California
Hot Rod Reunion Oct. 4-6 in Bakersfield. [10-2-2002]

Bob Wagner, NHRA vice president of sales and business development will
discuss the formula NHRA has used for securing new sponsors and reveal
some of the strategies utilized to sell NHRA programs, during the sixth
annual International Conference on Sport and Entertainment, Oct. 4 at
the University of South Carolina.
"Our event sponsorship inventory was sold out by June for 2002,"
Wagner said in the press release from NHRA, which also noted that NHRA
is constantly creating "new inventory in different areas for potential
new sponsors."
Hmm. And all this time, the Agent thought he was attending a drag race.
