DRO'S COMP ELIMINATOR TESTING
AT ROCKINGHAM
DRO's Comp Eliminator project car's first real
race will be this weekend at IHRA's Rockingham
Dragway during the Holley Spring Nationals.
Driver Kenny Nowling, whose driving credits
range from a 6.90 Top Sportsman Firebird to
a number of NHRA/IHRA Super Gas, Super Comp
and Super Street rides, has entered the Pontiac
B/EA in the IHRA Top Sportsman race to get some
test laps in prior to the car's NHRA debut at
the O'Reilly Spring Nationals in Houston, TX.
Nowling told the Agent he didn't think the
car would run quick enough to make the ultra-tough
T/S field at the "Rock," but he wanted to experience
IHRA Top Sportsman racing. [3-27-2003]
NEW PRO MODS IN THE NEWS
The Agent would love to show photos of new
Super Gas, Super Comp, or other sportsman cars
but unfortunately the only racers who seem to
be willing to take the time to send photos of
their new cars are Pro Mod racers, so here we
go again.
NEW CAR #1
Here is Raymond Commisso's new 1990 IROC
Pro Modified. Raymond is from Toronto,
Ontario, Canada. The car has a chassis
by G-Force Race Cars and the power comes
from ThunderCraft Racing Engines. Plans
include IHRA races and the Canadian Pro
Mod series. (photo

NEW CAR #2
And now one of the few Pro Mods from the
state of Montana. This is long time doorslammer
racer and painter to the stars Lee Frank's
'41 Willys. It also will have a Darren
Mayer-built supercharged wedge motor for
power. Look for this car to debut in a
month or so at the new family facility
at Boise, Idaho. (photo

IT'S VICK AND BAKER AT VIRGINIA
Steve Vick (Pro Modified) and Carl Baker (Pro
Stock) were the professional winners at the
3rd Annual CompetitionPlus.com Spring Open at
Virginia Motorsports Park. The "Chicago Style"
eliminations were sponsored by LendAmerica and
Sunoco Race Fuels. The Mocksville, NC-based
Vick took home the LendAmerica cash, defeating
former European champion Hakan Nilsson in the
all-nitrous final round.
Vick earned the top qualifying spot for the
final round on the strength of a 6.308, 223.80.
Nilsson earned his berth with a 6.380, 219.65
that came during the first session.
In the final round, Vick was in control from
the starting line to the finish line as he used
a .035 holeshot to grab the early lead and never
looked back en route to a 6.314, 223.06. Nilsson
produced his personal best in the final round,
a respectable 6.344, 221.13.
The Sunoco Pro Stock Shootout found Baker's
Summit Racing Equipment-backed Mustang producing
a barrage of mid-6.5 second runs to grab the
eliminations victory over first-time Pro Stock
finalist Frank Gugliotta. Baker ran a 6.553,
212.09 for the win. Gugliotta slowed to a 6.833,
201.64. [3-27-2003]
