GM GOODWRENCH TO SPONSOR IHRA
ROCKY MOUNTAIN NATS
The GM Goodwrench Service Dealers of Alberta
has signed on as presenting sponsor of the inaugural
IHRA Rocky Mountain Nationals, June 27-29, at
Budweiser Motorsports Park in Edmonton, Alberta,
Canada.
The Rocky Mountain Nationals presented by GM
Goodwrench Dealers of Alberta marks the first
national drag racing event in Western Canada.
Professional and sportsman racers will compete
in the three-day race featuring Top Fuel, Pro
Modified, Funny Car and Pro Stock. The track
is located just south of Edmonton, adjacent
to the Edmonton International Airport. [3-13-2003]
DARK HORSE STALKS GAINESVILLE
Johnny Rocca is returning to the NHRA Pro Mod
wars at Gainesville March 13-16. Rocca has Darren
Mayer and his crew from Redline Design and Thundercraft
Engines working with him this year. Mayer and
his crew have literally worked day and night
for three weeks to get the car ready. Mayer
sent the Agent this exclusive shot of the new
old Merc. He also told the Agent that the wedge
motor features a new generation Kobelco supercharger
and a newly designed pair of billet wedge heads.
The team is testing in Darlington before heading
to Gainesville. [3-10-2003]
NEW FUEL CAR NEWS!
For some reason the Agent has had a ton of calls concerning new Fuel cars and even some new teams. So, before you read it somewhere else, here is the news, hot off of the mojo wire.
The Agent hears the CSK camp is going to add a third Fuel Coupe to the stable. The Agent heard (on the QT) that the team would have an Australian connection and would be funded by a company from Australia and definitely not CSK.

One
of the Agent's favorite names for a funny car
team of all time was Arnie Karp's Boston Strangler
Alky Funny car. According to a Karp associate
we talked to at the NHRA race in Phoenix, the
Boston Strangler is coming back but this time
the team will be burning nitro!
IHRA had a near record 15 Top Fuelers at their
just completed San Antonio race. Apparently
there could be another addition to the IHRA
field soon as the Agent has learned that one
"Lucky" Gebus of the Detroit area has had Ty
Baumgartner's race car shop reproduce an exact
copy of the Al Swindahl chassis Kenny Bernstein
used when he broke the 300-mph barrier back
in '91.
Chris Karamesines isn't slowing down a bit. The Agent was told that the "Golden Greek" will be at Gainesville with Tim Finley and Glenn Mikres tuning and then will debut a new car at Houston with a trick Kenny Youngblood paint job.
Canadian Funny Car veteran, Todd Paton, will return to action at Gainesville with a major one-race sponsorship deal with Chill Factor Performance Inc.
Virgil Hartmann's team has confirmed that they
have committed to attending one more IHRA event
this season. They'll be at Rockingham the end
of March and then evaluate how the IHRA program
works for their two-car team. [3-10-2003]
