WORLD'S FASTEST AUSTRIAN CRASHES
Top Fuel veteran Gerry Steiner was hospitalized
after a frightening top end crash during Saturday's
last round of qualifying for the 44th Annual
March Meet. He had qualified 5th earlier in
the day with a fine 5.978 at 229.06 MPH.

In
the final session, Steiner was on a single pass
when his car moved around at mid-track, began
2basketballing2 and appeared to turn sideways
through the lights running 6.157 at 227.15 MPH.
In true Steiner fashion, he didn1t lift, but the
car began barrel rolling before hitting the right
side guardrail.
The Jaws of Life were used to extract Steiner
from the Stirling-built chassis while he was
still unconscious. He was transported via air
ambulance to the Kern Medical Center. Overnight
reports from the hospital said that 63-year-old
Steiner had suffered a concussion and two broken
ribs. He was breathing on his own and will probably
be held there for the remainder of the week.

IHRA UPS THE ANTE
If you're planning to attend an IHRA race this
year just be aware that the cost of a crewman
pass has gone up by ten bucks. A reasonable
increase DRO thinks, considering how much the
cost of putting on a race has gone up in the
last year. We're just giving you a little advance
warning. [3-10-2003]
SNAKE RACING IN SPORT COMPACTS?
|
The Agent has heard rumblings that Don
Prudhomme is taking a serious look at
the NHRA Sport Compact racing scene for
his sponsor Miller Lite.
"We are certainly looking at it," said
the Snake, "but they are an expensive
proposition (when you are) racing for
trophies."
Prudhomme may well be looking toward
the 2004 season with his long-standing
sponsor General Motors. With the development
and stability of the GM Racing Ecotec
engine, it may be closer than you think.
