IHRA LOOKING AT FUEL ALTS AS NEW CLASS?
The
IHRA recently sent out a press release announcing
that a couple of Nostalgia Fuel Altereds, the
Rat Trap (photo above by Tim Marshall) and Nanook,
would be making an appearance at the upcoming
IHRA national event in Grand Bend, Canada. A
call to the IHRA offices about the use of the
cars indicated that they might be testing the
waters to see if there was any fan interest
in the class. The Agent has heard this rumor
before at IHRA races and it is pretty evident
that IHRA needs something to replace the Nitro
Harleys and other classes they have done away
with over the last several years.
The Agent also hears a rumor that one of the Hartman Top Fuel family is involved
with a Fuel Altered circuit in the Northeast
and may have something to do with helping to
bring a Fuel Altered circuit to the IHRA. On
the subject of the Hartmans, the Agent has to
wonder if IHRA isn't looking a lot more inviting
to Virgil Hartman and his team after the way
NHRA overreacted to "Ductapegate." Could the
only thing keeping Hartman at NHRA be his team's
Fram sponsorship and their desire for NHRA fan
and television exposure? [4-24-2003]
NHRA GOOD FOR LUCAS OIL
On
a positive note, one of the Agent's sources
in the industry confided that Lucas Oil's sponsorship
of Kenny Bernstein and the NHRA Sportsman Series
has had a very positive effect on that company's
bottom line. According to his source, the company
can trace increased sales and profits directly
to their connection with big time drag racing.
This is certainly good news for drag racing
as Lucas Oil took a pretty big leap in committing
the funds they did to Bernstein's operation
and NHRA. (Jeff Burk photo)
