when
they compete April 25-27 at the Mac Tools Thunder
Valley NHRA Nationals in Bristol, Tennessee. Vancil
qualified as a result of his performance at the
AHDRA season opener in Phoenix.
The event started fast for Vancil and the Vance
& Hines/Drag Specialties team with their first
pass in qualifying a scorcher at 6.599 e.t.
and 212.39 mph. The team was number 1 qualifier
for the event. Ray Price put an end to Vancil's
domination in the semi finals, however. Vancil
had his best eighth-mile time of the weekend,
but the bike overpowered the track and he had
to let off. Price narrowly avoided the wall
and pulled a solid run and went on to win the
event. [4-15-2003]
