BRANDON BERNSTEIN CRUSHES
VERTEBRAE
Brandon Bernstein's quest for an NHRA Top Fuel championship may have taken a severe blow when he crashed during the first round of eliminations at the NHRA Matco Tools SuperNationals at Englishtown, NJ. Brandon was involved in a "pedaling" contest with John Smith in the other lane. The Bud King dragster eventually got out of control and jumped the guardrail. Brandon has crushed vertebrae and may require surgery and a relatively long recuperation period. While he is healing his dad, Kenny, will return to the cockpit and drive at least at the Topeka and Chicago NHRA events.
The rumors that Brandon had bone fragments in his spinal canal were wrong according
to Kenny Bernstein who told NHRA that the spinal
canal was clear and the spinal cord undamaged.

Agent 1320 caught some flak from several readers
about the entry last week about the truck owners
vs NHRA suit. Some readers accused the Agent
of being uninformed.

Ridden
with remorse over the fact that this rumor mill
might be wrong, Agent 1320 made a couple of
follow-up calls to the right people and confirmed
that, indeed, the Arizona court where the case
is being tried has decided against NHRA on all
four counts of the lawsuit.
Contrary to some rumors you may be hearing,
NHRA's appeal of the decision hasn't been completed.
The Agent's source indicates that the appeal
of the verdict by NHRA will take place around
May 20 or 21 in the state of Arizona. The Agent
will let you know how it turns out. If you really
want to know what's going on, it is a matter
of public info and a little research will get
you the info. If you don't want to work that
hard, the Agent will brief you. [5-19-2003]
