HOLBROOK GETS ESCORTED TO
MILAN
Chris Holbrook crashed his car at the IHRA
season opener in San Antonio, TX and has been
driving the 1998 Probe of teammate Chuck DeMory
ever since. But Holbrook will have a 2004 Escort
ready for the IHRA Motor City Nationals at Milan,
Michigan July 11-13.
Rick Jones Graphics did the color scheme, and
the paint was applied by S&D Enterprises. Butch
Peterson returns and will serve as crew chief
for both Holbrook's and DeMory's cars. The team
combination should make its presence felt for
the balance of the season. [7-3-2003]
ANGELLE'S ANGEL WEARS CAMO?
Agent 1320 hears that defending Pro Stock Motorcycle
Champ Angelle Seeling is very, very close to
signing the U.S. Army and a snack food company
as major sponsors for her Pro Stock Motorcycle
team. If it is true, the Agent would have to
say the Army and whoever else comes on board
will be getting a bargain as Angelle's is almost
the only motorcyle team in the pits that constantly
have a big crowd at the ropes. The constant
attention NHRA lavishes on her certainly won't
hurt a sponsor either. [7-1-2003]
NEW CARS IN THE NEWS
The Agent hears that Pro Mod racers Brad Anderson
and Al Billes are both getting new cars that
should debut at the U.S. Nationals if not sooner.
Brad Anderson supposedly is getting a new '69
Camaro from famed Australian chassis builder
Murray Anderson. The Agent's source spies tell
him that it is a very slick piece. Billes, who
has been campaigning his Murray Anderson-built
'53 Studebaker for several seasons, is just
finishing up a new Chevy Pro Mod built by Tim
McAmis. He should debut that car at an IHRA
event soon. [7-1-2003]
KUHLMANN CALLING IT QUITS...SORTA
DRO talked to Bill Kuhlmann after his horrendous
crash during the St. Louis NHRA AMS Staff Leasing
Pro Mod Challenge and Kuhlmann said that he
was giving up the NHRA tour for the rest of
this season.
"My doctor tells me I'm lucky to be alive after
my crash. I'm just not going to race a Pro Mod
that weighs close to 2800 lbs when it comes
to the starting line any longer. I don't think

they
are safe. I'll be writing a letter to NHRA to
tell them that I won't be coming to anymore
races this season." The long-time racer said.
Instead of racing, Kuhlmann is going to dedicate
his time to building a lightweight outlaw Pro
Mod and attempting to put together a circuit
for outlaw Pro Mods for the 2004 season. "I
tell you one thing about the circuit should
I get it put together -- there won't be any
controversy concerning blower versus nitrous
cars. The rules will be set up so that the racer
can have any engine combination he or she wants
to build."
Sounds like Bill's original quote from years
back when asked about Pro Mod: "This class is
run what ya brung and hope ya brung enough."
He was running a nitrous oxide injected car
at the time. [7-1-2003]
