PALMER TO FIX IHRA'S PAIN
IN THE NECK
Palmer College of Chiropractic, Davenport,
Iowa, has been named the official health care
provider for the International Hot Rod Association.
A first of its kind, the collaboration will
result in on-sight chiropractic care for drivers
and their crews, as well as opportunities for
recruitment and alumni development for Palmer.
The agreement came after Palmer was named a
Title Sponsor for the U.S. Open of Drag Racing
at Cordova Dragway Park in Cordova, Ill., and
sponsored two cars driven by

graduates in May. Palmer will continue their
sponsorship of Dr. John (Doc) Sipple, '68 Palmer
grad and owner of a Top Fuel Dragster, and his
two sons, Drs. Dan ('96) and Chris ('97) Sipple,
co-owners of a Funny Car (photo above).
"We are very excited to have Palmer on board
as a healthcare provider," said Scott Gardner,
Cordova Dragway Park owner/operator. "They were
with us for the U.S. Open and it was a huge
success. I can only see positive results from
us working together."
As part of the agreement, Palmer will have
a presence at the Sunoco World Nationals presented
by PPG, to be held in Norwalk, Ohio, Aug. 21-
24. (Jeff Leonard photo)

THE OLDEST HEMI?
DRO
received a letter from Don Curtis that we want
to pass along.
"I'm restoring an engine that was built before
1906. It was a prototype for the 1906 Truscott
boat engine. It was invented by a woman named
Allie R. Welch and she received patent #870065
for the overhead valve hemi engine in 1907.
Some of her claims include less heat loss and
improved breathing. If the pics come through
I think you'll see that she was way ahead of
her time. The only info I have about her is
that she lived in Pontiac, Michigan. If you
have any other information about her, please
let me know."
We don't know, but maybe some of our readers
do. Email Don at don-lissette@msn.com.
