INT. THE CAPPS ESTATE DAY

A butler opens the door to the stately Capps’ mansion.

BUTLER
Do come in. Mr. Capps
is expecting you.

The butler leads Martin and Burk up to a large office, where a Ron Capps sits imperiously behind an enormous desk.

BUTLER
Mr. Capps, Chief Burk
and Detective Martin
are here to see you.

Capps rises to shake hands with the two officers.

CAPPS
Thank you so much for coming.
Please, gentlemen, have a seat.

BURK
So, can you tell us what happened?

CAPPS
It’s all very disturbing.
Last night the doorbell
rang, and I went to
answer it. I opened the
door and there was no
one there, but this was
left on the doorstep.

Capps holds up a folded note. Burk and Martin put their hands up to cover their noses.

MARTIN
What’s that godawful smell?

CAPPS
It’s been doused in ‘Lectric Shave.
An obvious attempt to offend my
refined Brut-using sensibilities.

Martin takes a deep breath and takes the paper from Capps’ hand.

BURK
(still covering his nose and mouth)

Being in the public eye, of course,
one must take something like this
seriously.I’m not exactly sure what
it allmeans but it does seem like
some sort of a threat.
