Batmobile streaks to the finish line faster than our camera was capable to capturing it, and sucks the timing equipment right out of the ground. Jerry Caminito isn't even in sight.
At about mid track Caminito struck the tires, went into a
bad case of shake and lifted while the Batmobile put on an
outrageous display of mid-range power and marched away from
the out-of-shape Funny Car. We patiently awaited the results
of the run on Gotham's electronic scoreboards but they never
came on. It seems that as the Batmobile cleared the traps
it sucked the timing equipment right out of the ground! With
no replacement photocells to be found, the remainder of the
day's competition was postponed until the following week.
And so, it was over to the handling course for the Batmobile.
On the skidpad the Batmobile was something else. Sticking
like glue to the pylon marked course at full throttle, the
Batmobile registered a full 2g and took top place among all
the cars we've ever seen tested. In fact, the Batmobile just
may have been the best handling car ever. After the timed
run, Batman came staggering out of the car, and wiping a dab
of blood from his left ear, and commented that he had never
had to push the car that hard before, and if we gave him a
little time to regain his vision (trooper that he is), he
would try to do better. We told him his first performance
was just fine.

Batmobile styling is classic and timeless, following proven formula of form follows function. Laser headlights and smokescreen exhaust are just part of goodguy goodie package on the Gotham groundshaker. Note twin chutes for stopping safety. |
With the action part of the test out of the way, Batman pointed out some of the car's features The key to the car's brutal acceleration, of course, was its awesome turbine power. The turbine is brought up to speed by the car’s atomic batteries.
But, the Batmobile does not rely only on unparalleled performance to do its job. It’s chock-full of all kinds of crime-fighting paraphernalia that can stop bad guys dead in their tracks. The Batmobile is coated with a unique bulletproof space age ceramic and contains headlight laser beams, smoke screen exhaust system and onboard computer in the dashboard, which is in constant contact with a giant battery of computers in the Batcave.
Stunning performance aside, the car's styling should
not go unnoticed. Classic, flowing, timeless, can best sum
up the Batmobile distinctive lines. It all takes on more significance
when you consider that, as with Mercedes-Benz, the philosophy
behind the Batmobile was that form should follow function.
Detroit take note!
And, now you know.
