When I started sanding the rear spoiler area I discovered the black stripe and two different bumpers painted on. The original bumper is smaller. The rear corner shows the black stripe over the rear spoiler.
The side scoop area was covered over to make a '69 into a '70 Mustang.
See how it is peeling up.

My theory as to what happened to the car is as follows. After the fire, the car was rebuilt. Dick Poll was named to drive and Amos Satterlee was hired to tune. The car was originally a 1969 Mustang. After the fire the side scoops were filled. The filled area is peeling off on the body now. A 1970 grill was glassed onto the nose and the car was repainted. It was lettered different too. Gas Ronda was in large letters on the side where Russ Davis Ford had previously been. The car was run for the remainder of 1970, and was put up for sale in Drag News, Jan. 16, 1971. I have that Drag News issue. After that, the car received the metalflake paint and was running the Arizona area possible as a blown alcohol funny car. Then it received the black paint and was named "Infatuation."

That's the story as it goes now. I plan to finish taking the rest of the paint off and then glass the nose back on. I'm going to build a new chassis for it and I already have the tubing cut and bent. I have just bought a set of 16x13 Halibrands for the rear and a pair of five-spoke Americans for the front. I want to keep that classic look, but have an updated chassis underneath. I was never able to locate the original Stage 2 Logghe chassis. I heard that Dave Bowman got the chassis and turned it into his California Stud Vega Panel from 1972-3, but I don't know for sure.

I just had to put the set of Hoosiers under it, just to see if they would fit.

Well, that's how I wound up with Gas Ronda's 1970 Mustang funny car body. That just happens to be the year that I graduated from high school. Right now, I am gathering parts so that when it comes time to build the chassis, everything will be there. Boy, now if I could only come up with a cammer….
