In years gone by it wasn't unusual for people to order just about
everything from underwear to a complete house by mail. These days most
mail order is limited to specialty items like the chop-o-matic or some
a device guaranteed to give you the thighs of Suzanne Somers no matter
what your gender is.
In the racing world, using the internet almost anything from nuts and
bolts to a complete engine now can be ordered online. The one thing
you probably wouldn't think could be mail ordered these days, though,
is a professional race car — but you would be wrong. Jim Oddy, owner
of the defending IHRA Pro Modified World Championship team did exactly
that.
During
the 2000 season Jim Oddy and legendary Australian car builder Murray
Anderson got together and the result was that Oddy "mail ordered" a
new C-5 'Vette for the 2001 Pro Modified season for his driver Fred
Hahn.
Jim and Murray worked out the chassis design that includes a unique
rear suspension. Oddy wouldn't say much about the design other than
it was "trick."
The
chassis itself is a double frame rail design and, from outward appearances,
fairly standard looking.
