The first time Fred ever let the clutch out in the new car was the first qualifying lap of the 2001 season. The team suffered the "new car blues" at Rockingham, but still managed a 6.39/217 the second time the car went down the track.

Although the team failed to qualify at that event, Jim and Fred agree that their "mail order" 'Vette has plenty of potential and, with a little work, will be quicker and faster than the '53 'Vette that won the championship last year
