TOP-SECRET STERLING FORMULA
|
One of the leading exhaust
coating outfits is Jet-Hot Header Coatings.
Jet-Hot Sterling, its standard product,
is an aerospace-derived metallic-ceramic
coating compound consisting of a proprietary,
baked-on mixture of aluminum, ceramic, and
sterling silver powder. The unique combo
provides both high luster and good flexibility.
The ceramic coating's ability to trap heat
aids a marginal engine coolant system in
a muscle car by reducing under hood temperatures.
As installed in a real car, lowering the
ambient temperatures could also allow a
cooler, denser fuel/air charge to reach
the combustion chambers, offering more power-making
potential. It can also be used on exhaust
pipes, mufflers, and even the catalytic
converter. To learn more, call 800-432-3379.

PRECISION ROD BOLT STRETCH
GAUGES AVAILABLE FROM ARP
Here's
one item that every professional engine builder
and serious do-it-yourself grassroots racer
should have in his or her toolbox. A typical
small block Chevy rod bolt (ARP #134-6003 for
example) should be stretched .0063" to achieve
the optimum torque load (roughly equivalent
to 50 ft. lbs.). Torque wrench reading can vary
by amounts up to 10 ft. lbs. in this range due
to such factors as the type of lubricant used,
rod thread condition, and the accuracy of the
torque wrench itself. For additional information
visit www.arp-bolts.com,
or call 800-826-3045. A free copy of the latest
ARP catalog can be requested by phone, by fax
(805-650-0742) or by writing to ARP at 1863
